EC Fans powered by ECTRA motors

Navigation

Higher efficiency. Space saving. Built for the next generation of Air Handling Units.

Modern HVAC manufacturers face increasing pressure from every direction: rising energy-efficiency expectations, limited installation space, evolving ErP requirements and the need for dependable component supply.

Swiss Rotors responds to these challenges with a new generation of EC Fan Sets powered by ECTRA.

By combining proven Swiss Rotors backward-curved impellers with ECTRA EC motor technology, we have created an optimized fan-set solution designed to help you build more efficient, more compact and more competitive Air Handling Units.

This is not simply a motor replacement. It is a fan-set upgrade engineered as one integrated system.

Swiss Rotors impeller + ECTRA EC motor = optimised EC Fan Set

The impeller, motor architecture, mechanical integration and control capabilities have been selected to work together. The result is a compact fan solution that supports stronger system performance while helping you optimize the dimensions and energy use of your AHU.

What does ECTRA mean for your AHU design?

The new EC Fan Sets powered by ECTRA are designed around four practical priorities for HVAC manufacturers.

Improved overall fan-set efficiency

Energy performance is no longer a secondary parameter. It has a direct impact on product competitiveness, ErP-oriented system design and the operating cost of the final ventilation system.

Swiss Rotors EC Fan Sets combine proven impeller aerodynamics with a new ECTRA EC motor platform to improve overall fan-set efficiency.

Implementation process

We understand that implementing new fan sets may require minimal effort on your side[KG6.1]. Therefore, we have planned the introduction of new fans powered by ECTRA motors in a phased manner:

  • The launch: During this period we will intensively support you in the field of new fans implementation. Just to help you know our new solutions, understand their advantages and fully integrate them into your final products.
  • Full Integration: Following the launch phase, the ECTRA-driven fans will become our new standard.

For your business, this means:

  • lower electrical energy consumption
  • improved system performance
  • stronger support for energy-efficient AHU design
  • more competitive operating parameters for your end customers.

The value is not only in the motor itself. It comes from the performance of the complete fan set: the impeller, motor, airflow path and control system working together.

Shorter fan sections and more compact AHUs

Every millimeter matters when designing an Air Handling Unit. ECTRA motors feature a flat pancake motor design. Compared with a traditional motor configuration, the compact architecture reduces the fan section length. This gives AHU manufacturers more freedom to reduce t overall footprint of the unit.

  • shorter AHU fan sections
  • more compact unit dimensions
  • improved use of available installation space
  • easier transport and handling
  • more flexibility when designing rooftop units and compact AHUs
  • a stronger response to projects with limited technical-room space.

A shorter fan section can help you design a smaller unit without compromising the performance expected from a modern EC Fan Set.

Improved airflow through the impeller

The pancake motor architecture also improves the internal airflow conditions of the fan set. In a traditional “rotor-cup” motor design, the motor construction occupies more space inside the impeller. ECTRA’s flat motor with shaft instead of rotor-cup reduces this obstruction and creates a clearer airflow path through the impeller.

This translates into

  • smoother airflow
  • reduced aerodynamic losses
  • more efficient use of the impeller geometry
  • improved overall fan-set performance.

For the final system, better airflow conditions contribute to a more efficient and better-integrated EC Fan Set.

European engineering and supply reliability

For AHU manufacturers, component availability and supply-chain reliability are as important as technical performance.

ECTRA motors are manufactured in Poland in line with European standards and quality processes. The supply chain is based on European manufacturing partners.

This gives you practical advantages:

  • shorter and more transparent supply routes
  • consistent quality processes
  • improved supply-chain reliability
  • European technical support and communication
  • alignment with relevant EU directives and market requirements.

The result is a fan solution designed not only for performance, but also for dependable long-term cooperation.

Three ECTRA motor platforms for different AHU applications

Swiss Rotors is introducing three ECTRA EC motor platforms, precisely matched with selected impellers and designed for a broad range of Air Handling Unit applications.

ECTRA 2.3 kW

For compact ventilation systems and smaller AHUs

A compact solution for applications where installation space, energy efficiency and reliable speed control are key selection priorities.

For the final system, better airflow conditions contribute to a more efficient and better-integrated EC Fan Set.

ECTRA 5.1 kW

For medium-sized Air Handling Units

Designed for AHUs that require a balanced combination of airflow performance, compact integration and efficient EC motor operation.

ECTRA 8.1 kW

For high-performance ventilation systems

Built for demanding applications with higher airflow requirements, where manufacturers need a compact and efficient fan-set solution for larger AHUs.

Fan impellers range

The new range covers fan-set applications between 315 and 630 mm configurations.

Built for easy integration into modern AHUs

Swiss Rotors EC Fan Sets powered by ECTRA are designed to integrate smoothly with modern AHU control systems.

Available control options include:

  • 0–10 V or Modbus speed control
  • integrated EC motor control
  • precise fan-speed adjustment
  • suitability for demand-based ventilation strategies.

The fan sets are also designed for long-term operation, with an expected bearing service life of approximately 70,000 hours (L10). This supports a lower-maintenance, direct-drive fan concept without belts, pulleys or external motor-control equipment.

More than a motor upgrade

Replacing a traditional motor solution with ECTRA is not only about achieving a different technical specification.

It can influence the design and market position of the entire Air Handling Unit.

Traditional fan-set concept Swiss Rotors EC Fan Set powered by ECTRA
Longer fan section More compact fan-section design
Standard motor architecture Flat pancake motor architecture
Less optimised airflow path Improved airflow conditions through the impeller
Lower overall fan-set efficiency potential Optimised fan-set efficiency
Generic supply-chain model European manufacturing and supply chain
Limited design flexibility Greater freedom in compact AHU design

With ECTRA, the value is visible across the whole system: from energy performance and airflow behaviour to AHU dimensions and supply security.

We understand that introducing a new fan-set platform requires technical confidence, product knowledge and support during the implementation process.

That is why Swiss Rotors is introducing EC Fan Sets powered by ECTRA in phases.
